Description of the project

Located in the center of Rotterdam, the Markthal is a mixed-use facility comprising of private apartments arranged in a large arch that acts as cover for the square below, which features a market hall during the day and restaurants on the lower levels in the evening. Designed by MVRDV, the hybrid building has an open character and the shape of an arch.

Guardian SunGuard® SuperNeutral (SN) 70/41 coated solar control glass was chosen to cover the arched façade. With two layers of silver applied to the glass, Guardian SN 70/41 provides high natural light transmission (70%), solar control and thermal insulation properties, while helping to minimize the need for artificial light. The Markthal is an energy efficient building and was awarded a Very Good BREEAM rating.
