AIA 2019: Let’s Talk Solutions

July 8, 2019

Guardian Glass showcased products that inspired creative conversations in Las Vegas.

At AIA 2019, innovative solutions were on display, and Guardian Glass was ready to help architects see what’s possible™ with glass. We were standing by to field questions and comments from our visitors, and our products inspired a variety of conversations:

  • There was a lot of buzz around Guardian Vacuum IG™ units. We had many conversations with architects about its impressive thermal performance, and visitors could feel the difference for themselves via our refrigerator display unit. Our VIG discussions frequently centered on building renovations. Multiple people were asking about that application, even in the southern climate zones. Vacuum IG units are a great solution for this application, because the product’s thin profile won’t alter the existing design.
  • One architect asked about neutral, low-E coatings that meet stringent solar heat gain requirements in southern climates, but do not show a greenish hue. His question is quite common and shows that neutral, low-E coatings are still very much in-demand. We talked about Guardian SunGuard® SNX 62/27 coating on our Guardian UltraClear® low-iron glass. This makeup delivers high performance with the appearance very similar to uncoated glass.
  • How to best match spandrel glass is a question that popped up often. We talked about pairing Guardian Deco HT™ back-painted glass with neutral and reflective vision glass. High outward reflectivity, for example, makes harmonizing vision to spandrel easier, achieving a more uniform reflected aesthetic.
  • We were very fortunate to deliver our new Making Glass Come to Life Continuing Education Unit to a packed house. It was my privilege to connect with several attendees on selecting the right glass for their performance and aesthetic needs. I received a few questions about tempered/laminated glass. Most cities require tempered/laminated makeups for handrails. Guardian Glass recommends using DuPont Sentry Glass Plus interlayer for the best structural support.

Finally, I can’t talk about creativity at AIA 2019 without sharing this innovative project: Not a building, not a product: This is the dessert Ferris wheel from Beauty and Essex in The Cosmopolitan. It’s not Vegas without some flash!

Thanks to all who visited us at Booth 6907 at AIA 2019! It was our pleasure to discuss your projects and solutions. If you missed us, you can explore our project portfolio , contact a Guardian Glass expert for advice, or catch us at GlassBuild on September 17-19.
