Turtle glass is designed to follow ordinances to protect marine turtles. It has been discovered that light shining brightly from buildings within the line of sight of the seashore attracts marine turtle hatchlings away from their natural environment at sea.
Due to this behavior, the design of projects along the Florida coastline requires adherence to the Florida Model Lighting Ordinance for Marine Turtle Protection. The ordinance requires architectural glass installed in coastal buildings to transmit no more than 45% of interior light.
Guardian offers glass solutions to help meet the Florida ordinance for turtle protection. If you have questions about turtle glass, please contact us to consult with a SunGuard® coated glass specialist, or click here to order a sample .
