The new-build façades are predominately brick-faced, with punched windows to reflect the surrounding context.

Small trees in orange fall color are on the Kracke Plaza green space outside of Heersink Biomedical Innovation Conference Center at Altec Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences building.

With its striking double helix, this genomic medicine and data sciences building at University of Alabama Birmingham stands out for its innovative use of glass. The exterior combines SunGuard™ SNX 51/23 coating with Guardian Bird1st™ Etch glass on clear. Acid-etched dots in a DNA-inspired pattern make the glass visible to birds while preserving a sleek, scientific, transparent aesthetic. Recognized by the Audubon Society, the building is also LEED Silver® certified.
