Description of the project

Klinika Dr. Pírka is a modern, multi-functional hospital located in Mladá Boleslav in the central Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. The building not only includes outpatient care, physiotherapy and pharmacy facilities, but also spaces for professional seminars and lectures.

The architect, Prof. Ing. Archbishop Martin Rajniš, designed a building whose functions, aesthetics and energy efficiency are carefully geared to ensuring the optimum comfort of patients. The building itself encircles the rock ridge on which the older part of the hospital is located. On the south side of the building is a glazed façade. On the north facade, stones that match the colour of the adjacent rocks were used. Martin Rajniš took great care to achieve the contrast between the heavy rock and the light glazed adjacent facade. The lightness and glazing of the building are important elements that intersect the entire building.

The glass chosen for the facade is Guardian SunGuard® SuperNeutral™ (SN) 62/34. This coated solar control glass has a neutral greyish look that is sensitive to the natural surroundings. The coated solar control glass combines exceptional solar control with a high light transmission and outstanding thermal insulation, whilst minimising the need for artificial light.
