Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the process of creating and managing information on architectural and building construction projects across the complete project lifecycle. The Building Information Model is a key output of this process, as it represents a complete digital description of each aspect of the building, including its functional and physical characteristics.

The Building Information Model typically draws on information assembled collaboratively by various parties involved in the project and is updated at key stages. Creating a digital Building Information Model enables those who interact with the building to coordinate and optimise their actions, resulting in a greater whole life value for their asset.

Today, few building materials can have as great an impact on a building’s functional and physical characteristics as glass. The use of glass in architectural projects can affect design, appearance, thermal performance, safety and security, as well as the comfort and wellbeing of the building’s occupants.

Guardian BIM tools

Whatever glass your design project requires – monolithic, double glazed or triple glazed IGUs – Guardian BIM tools provided here allow you to download and create specific glass objects for your BIM project and fit these into any window or glazing system, from balustrades and facades, to partitions, stairs, entrance doors, skylights and external shading fins. Determine the glass makeup and specify the expected thickness of the glass, IGU construction, cavity size, gas, etc.

Each Guardian product has two types of file associated: components and materials. These are produced in IFC and Revit format.

Components are used to create the BIM object within the project design.

Materials are associated with the components and provide the product data set.
