How Glass Is Made

Great glass design begins with quality float glass

Guardian offers you a glimpse behind the glass; see how our advanced glass manufacturing process creates glass to your specifications.

Architects, designers and builders have more choices of glass today than ever before. Every time you choose glass, you have an opportunity to make your project stronger, smarter, better looking. Our mission is to provide you with the highest quality glass possible through sophisticated manufacturing capabilities.

Float glass begins with mountains of silica sand and select raw materials, heated to a liquid state and floated on a bath of molten tin to produce a perfect ribbon of glass. Guardian brings the process and results of glassmaking to new levels, applying deep knowledge of chemistry, physics and advanced technologies to create glass with optimal light transmission, clarity and integrity for custom treatments and fabrication. After the float glass is made, Guardian also applies a wide variety of SunGuard low-E coatings to improve solar and thermal performance.

Our float glass is available in a range of thicknesses, colors and specialty tints. Click on the video to see how raw materials become a finished, versatile building product.
