Easton Park is a residential community outside of Austin, Texas. The Union, Easton Park’s 14,000 square-foot amenity center, boasts a resort-style pool, club-style fitness facility, event space, gaming nook and more.
The community philosophy of the neighborhood necessitated an open and inviting facility that connects with nature. The Texas climate, meanwhile, required high performance glass that can withstand intense heat. The design invited abundant natural light, so the glazing would have to keep interiors comfortable for residents.
Gensler specified Guardian SunGuard® SNX 51/23 coating on clear glass for the Union. Offering excellent performance properties and an attractive aesthetic, this triple silver coating has a high light transmission to help meet stringent energy codes, enhance daylighting and help reduce air conditioning demands. SunGuard® SNX 51/23 coating on clear glass has a visible light transmission of 51 percent and a low 0.23 solar heat gain coefficient.
Guardian Glass supplied 6,800 square feet of Guardian SunGuard® SNX 51/23 coated glass to independent Guardian Select® fabricator TriStar Glass Products. The insulating glass units were installed by independent Glazier Connection™ member Floyd’s Glass Co. The structural glazing, which utilized Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope® Reliance™ curtain wall, included large profile, 10’ IGUs on the first floor, while the top pieces were customized to follow the steel profile of the roof.
“The service from my fabricators and the excellent relationship they have with Guardian Glass gives Floyd’s Glass confidence in our supply chain, and that’s hard to put a price on,” says Kevin Zuehlke, project manager, Floyd’s Glass Co.
“The exceptional exterior aesthetic paired with the high performance of SunGuard SNX 51/23 coated glass has made it extremely popular with architects in Texas and across the South,” adds Steve Versland,Architectural Design Manager, Guardian Glass. “The Easton Park project was a culmination of first-in-class design, fabrication and installation of Guardian’s SunGuard SNX 51/23 on clear glass. The glazing is one of the signature features of this phenomenal structure.”
