Professional photography of Rubell Museum in Washington, D.C.

The adaptive reuse of the historic Randall Junior High School, now transformed into the Rubell Museum in Southwest D.C., is a celebration of preservation and community revitalization. The contemporary art museum’s design prioritizes simplicity, allowing the original structure’s elements to shine while providing a dramatic backdrop for the exhibitions. The development preserves the school’s original layout, converting former classrooms and offices into gallery spaces. The only significant addition to the façade is a stunning glass pavilion entrance featuring SunGuard™ SN 68 coating on clear glass. Sunlight filters through giant windows, casting grid patterns on walls adorned with vibrant art. The glass selection symbolizes the integration of historic preservation with contemporary design, breathing new life into an iconic landmark.
